Open the garment size chart before the “recommended size” table. Match shoulder, chest, and length (or waist, hip, rise, inseam for pants) to your notes within about ±1–2 cm. Letters and height/weight suggestions are secondary.

1. Why charts beat “recommended size”

I used to buy from height/weight suggestion tables on Musinsa and other shops: “175 cm / 78 kg → L.” The letter was often “right” and the garment still felt wrong — shoulders off, length long, pants waist OK but thighs failing.

Every brand grades L differently. Compare your measurement notes to listed garment specs. For intentional oversize failures, see the 2XL oversize guide.

2. Tops — three numbers

Top chart fields to match
FieldWhat to compareMy habit
ShoulderShoulder width / across shoulder±1 cm; +2–3 cm only if I want oversize
ChestOften half-chest on KR chartsConvert flat ↔ circumference before comparing
LengthTotal length / body lengthToo long shortens the leg line at 175 cm

Measure shoulders alone: shoulder width guide. No tape: hand-span measuring.

💡 Charts often say “±1–3 cm variance.” If you are on the edge, size for intentional ease or skip.

3. Pants — four numbers

4. Flat vs circumference

Korean charts often list half-chest (garment laid flat). A “chest 55” is often ~110 cm circumference. US/EU charts more often list full circumference — never mix units.

7. FAQ

Is chest 55 cm circumference?

Often half-chest on KR charts. Roughly double for circumference.

I wear L — buy L?

Compare cm, not letters.

No chart?

Weak signals only — I usually skip no-spec oversize.
